Paul Morrissey
Carol Murphy in conversation with Factory filmmaker

Morrissey is the most independent of independent American filmmakers. For nine years he managed the Andy Warhol Studio and was first asked by Warhol in 1965 to bring a new direction to a host of films that Warhol was presenting. It was over this period and up until 1975 when they parted company that Morrissey independently made a body of work which started with the likes of My Hustler (1965) and Chelsea Girls (1966). He produced Trash, Flesh and Heat from 1968 to 1972 and was responsible for these films in their entirety from writing to directing and always working with young unknown actors - the most famous of whom being Joe Dallesandro.
