We are now living in a golden age of serious film writing second only to that first flowering of Film Studies in the 1960s and 1970s. If serious film culture in the second half of the 20th century occurred around the academic classroom, the arthouse coffee shop and the paper journal, by the end of the century the Internet was becoming the venue for a proliferating range of film literature. Instead of going to a library or bookshop to browse, by 2005 the film student or cinephile could sit in a spacious well-ventilated room at home and have access to page after page of the most stimulating movie writing around.
