VENICE BIENNALE 2005 REPORT ON VIDEO

VENICE BIENNALE 2005 REPORT ON VIDEO

The standard of Video in the 51st Venice Biennale is strong this year. The two women curators put together an astounding collection of work. The biennale was created in two parts; The Experience of Art, curated by Maria de Corral is housed in the Italian Pavilion in the Giardini location. Always A Little Further is curated by Rosa Martinez and occupies the Arsenale. The intelligent curating and planning allows video to breathe and the spaces to be taylor-made and intelligently allocated to the type of work on show. The video works chosen throughout this biennale all have in common a subtlety, openness and visuality that is intense and sometimes playful at the same time, highly original and conceptually challenging.
