THE GROWTH OF ARTIST’S FILM AT THE FILM FESTIVAL. A REPORT
For more than two decades moving image work in the gallery has developed from an emerging phenomenon to slowly becoming established, expected and sought after. The Film Festival circuit has been providing feature films and short films a platform for much longer, but its relationship with artists moving image, or experimental work as it’s more often referred to in a festival context, is much more complex.
Through the 1990s the larger British festivals, such as Edinburgh and London, started to play a bigger role in showcasing emerging and established artists’ moving image. However both festivals have now scaled down their programmes and become more commercially orientated.
