The International Film Festival Rotterdam: a quieter yet more honest way in. Sundance for instance, is now thought in some quarters to exist mainly for the purpose of granting independent filmmakers access to Hollywood; while Cannes tends to award its prizes to offerings from more successful representatives of their movements (frequent winners include the Coen Brothers and David Lynch).
